We Pity the Fool Who Doesn’t Want to Buy Mr. T’s Old House

MR. T selling Lake Forest

Actor and jewelry aficionado Mr. T created quite a ruckus in the northern Chicago ‘burb of Lake Forest when—in the late ‘80s—he chopped down trees on his estate … with a chainsaw.

The “A-Team” star (legally known as Lawrence Tero) has since moved on from that debacle, as well as the property, and now the current owners of his former home are selling it for $7.5 million, reports Crain’s Chicago Business.

The mansion went on the market last week, represented by Andra O’Neill of @properties Lake Forest. With nine bedrooms and 10 baths, the nearly 15,000-square-foot English Tudor home sits on an 8-acre lot. It features luxuries like 10 fireplaces, two garages, a pool and pool house, and an elevator.

The home was built in 1910 and redesigned in 1928 by architect David Adler, whose other residential projects included a Lake Bluff, IL, home later bought by musician Richard Marx and currently on the market.

The butler’s pantry is the size of most  kitchens, and there’s a gorgeous Ludowici tile roof. Landscape architect Jens Jensen—who was commissioned for several residences by the Ford family in Michigan as well as Chicago’s legacy parks (including Garfield Park)—designed the gardens.

After making nice with the neighbors, Mr. T sold the home in 2003 for $3.85 million. An extensive renovation by a developer followed, and the home spent a few years on the market before the current owners moved in in 2009.

They paid just $4.65 million, about a third of the home’s asking price of $12 million in 2006. A coach house was added in 2011. And, should any more trees become victim to a chainsaw, a front wall added in 2009 can hide the homeowners’ shame.
