Pebble Beach, CA, a coastal community south of San Francisco, is known as a charming vacation destination with its popular golf courses and breathtaking ocean views.

There’s one more point of interest: stunning real estate. However, many homes in the picturesque community hew to a style that leans Mediterranean or Spanish.

But now, a modern-style home has gone up as part of the final phase of land development by Pebble Beach Company. The home, on the market for $6.95 million, is the first one available of the 16 lots on a cul-de-sac adjacent to Poppy Hills Golf Course.

Though these modern structures in posh Pebble Beach break with the area’s traditional architecture, they’re designed to give buyers what they want.

“There’s more demand” for sleek, open homes using the principles of modern architecture, says listing agent Tim Allen. “It’s the trend. We’re starting to see more of it.”

The modern style makes sense for buyers looking for vacation homes, he adds. “You can build large, open spaces with lots of glass. People love that indoor-outdoor feeling.”

Designed by Conrad Asturi Studios, the home has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two half-baths. It features clean lines and an aesthetic that blends with its natural surroundings.

“Every homesite is unique, and the natural elements that make it naturally beautiful must be preserved, respected and emphasized,” Conrad Sanchez, co-owner of the Modesto, CA–based firm, says on the firm’s website. “My goal is to recognize that beauty and make the most of it in the home’s design. I haven’t succeeded if it doesn’t look like the home was meant to be there.”

This modern home sits on the fifth hole of the Poppy Hills Golf Course. The light-filled spaced includes 14-foot-high ceilings, polished aggregate floors, and a Corten steel roof.

Walls of windows, which are retractable, offer views of the fairway, the Pacific Ocean, and the forest. A 424-square-foot guesthouse with a rooftop terrace is included. The property features a boulder-lined reflecting pond and a pool that looks out to the fairway.

In case you’re worried about being the lone mod pioneer in the neighborhood, fear not. There are more homes on the way. In fact, Allen has bought four lots himself, with two more modern homes going up soon.

“What we’re seeing is a new community. The area is going to fill out with this nice modern architecture,” Allen says.
