Notorious Hernandez Home in Massachusetts Tops The Week’s Most Popular Homes

We haven’t seen a home quite this infamous top our weekly list of the most popular homes on realtor.com® since the “Amityville Horror” house hit the market last summer. Or maybe ever.

Renewed interest in the former home of murderer and former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez bubbled over this week. After he hanged himself in his cell in late April, we saw stirrings of interest in the home as folks retraced the sordid and sad tale.

A week after his death, reports emerged of an offer to buy the $1.3 million mansion, which has been on the market for over a year. The possible sale catapulted the home to the top spot this week, garnering three times as many clicks as the runner-up. The home hasn’t gone into pending sale status as of yet, so we expect it’ll hang around with the most popular homes until a deal is done.

You also clicked on homes with happier tales. We were introduced to an adorable Georgia peach of a home, a couple of bargain older homes, and a historic home in Louisiana.

Here’s the full list of this week’s most popular properties:

10. 2221 Olive St, Baton Rouge, LA

Price: $630,000
Why it’s here: On the National Register of Historic Places, this four-bedroom home in the Garden District offers abundant charm. It’s touted as a perfect blend of new and old, “a historic home fully renovated with updated modern amenities.”

9. 80 Cornell St, Springfield, MA

Price: $139,900
Why it’s here: This century-old Victorian represents a tremendous bargain for a savvy buyer. The well-preserved woodwork inside the home is worth the price of admission. And with over 4,600 square feet of living space, including seven bedrooms, the cost per square foot is a mere $30! Yes, you read that correctly.

8. 219 S Cherokee Rd, Social Circle, GA

Price: $289,900
Why it’s here: Listing agent Taylor Morris told us this peach of a home was brought back from a near-death experience.

“It was left alone for seven or eight years to sit and rot. It was very dilapidated,” she said. Over the past year, the home was fully renovated, with its essential charm preserved and creative updates added.

She said everyone who’s been through the home loves it, but she particularly adores the converted chicken coop in the backyard.

Social Circle, GASocial Circle, GA

Why it’s here: Located in a cul-de-sac, this four-bedroom home comes with a remodeled kitchen and a saltwater pool out back. But you’ll have to find out if the seller will negotiate the pool table into the final price.

5. 506 Parkview Dr, Detroit, MI

Price: $285,000
Why it’s here: This grand house needs a bit of an exterior makeover, but the interior looks solid. It’s a sweet opportunity to score a bargain mansion only minutes from downtown.

4. 34 E Perry St, Tiffin, OH

Price: $209,900
Why it’s here: Built in 1914, this home might have been a bank or a general store, but now it’s being sold as a single-family home. The listing says the property’s second floor could easily be rented out, which would make this house a money-making proposition.

3. 5501 W Hamilton Rd S, Fort Wayne, IN

Price: $30,000,000
Why it’s here: It’s Indiana’s most expensive home! When we wrote about it over a year ago, the massive mansion known as Freeland Castle had just landed on the market. The 50-acre spread is still in need of a queen to come to the rescue, but if popularity is any indication, this place may have a royal finale on the way.

2. 17 Park Dr, Fairmont, WV

Price: $239,000
Why it’s here: This four-bedroom stone home is described as “stately.” We think it’s a perfect manor for a regal lord or lady of West Virginia.

1. 22 Ronald C Meyer Dr, North Attleboro, MA

Price: $1,299,000
Why it’s here: It’s a luxury home with an infamous history. This was the home of Aaron Hernandez. It’s where the former NFL star was unforgettably led away in handcuffs in 2013 and loaded into a police car. Convicted of murder in April 2015, Hernandez recently committed suicide in prison.

The house landed on the market in March 2016 with a list price of $1.5 million, but found no takers. Local reports say an offer was made on the now-$1.3 million home last month, but the pending sale sign still hasn’t gone up for this infamous property.
