As if wrestling couldn’t get any more gimmicky, Sunday’s WWE “Payback” match between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt began outside the ring—in a house! That’s right, these wrestlers kicked off their brawl by pummeling each other inside a “House of Horrors,” which appeared to take as many blows as the fighters themselves.

Which got everyone wondering: Where is this run-down wreck, anyway?

The mystery ‘House of Horrors,’ revealed

The 10 minutes of edited video footage capturing this brawl tried to make it seem like this residential battleground was a mere 20-minute drive from the San Jose stadium where the rest of the fight took place—as if Orton and Wyatt had decided, mid-chokeslam, to hop into limos and continue slugging it out in front of the eagerly waiting audience in the stadium. But no.

Wrestling fans soon discovered (and spread the word on Reddit) that the house is much, much farther away—in Richmond, MO. This prompted one Reddit member to quip, “I love that they made a 28-hour drive in less than 30 minutes.” But then again, wrestling fans don’t expect reality, right?

And as it turns out, this house has been for sale for the past three years. Originally listed for $69,900, it can now be yours for a mere $36,000.

So is this place a screaming deal just waiting for some wrestling fan to snap it up? Or, given the beating it’s been through—after, all, Wyatt hurled a refrigerator on top of Orton—will this rickety-looking shack collapse the instant someone sets foot inside?

Property being sold as is

According to the listing on realtor.com®, this two-bedroom, one-bath home needs more than a little TLC.

“This home has potential! Fixer Upper’s dream!” the listing euphemistically chirps. “Bring your ideas and skills and make this your special home.” And, in case it isn’t clear from the above lackluster description, the listing continues, “OWNER IS SELLING PROPERTY ‘AS IS‘!”

So is the damage done by the wrestlers to blame for this sorry state of things? Real estate pros say that’s a tough call.

“It’s hard to tell from the video of the fight and from the listing whether the house has structural damage,” says Wendy Flynn, a Realtor® in College Station, TX. “It may have some, but who’s to say if that’s from the brawl? The house doesn’t look like it was in the best condition to begin with.”

Ron Adkins of Riverview Realty, the listing broker for the past three months, couldn’t say much due to his contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. But, he insists that the wrestlers didn’t do any damage. In fact, he claims they left the house surprisingly intact.

“They used all stage props,” Adkins says. “It was not damaged. That was their deal.”

Nonetheless, Adkins admits the home is still “rough,” with water in the basement. And, as such, it goes without saying that any interested buyers should get a home inspection to gauge exactly what kind of shape the house is in.

Despite these risks, the house does sit on 3 pretty acres—and now has major WWE cachet, too.

“Surely there are some entrepreneurial WWE fans who would buy this home and set up public tours for $10 per person,” Flynn jokes.

“We’re just crossing our fingers that the owner will get this place sold,” says Adkins. “That’s our main concern right now.”

He adds that the home’s newfound fame has helped. “We’re getting a lot of calls—some good, some bad.”

So while this highly orchestrated “home fight” was trounced by WWE critics and ticket buyers alike, we still think that if there’s any winner to be had, this house came out on top.
