Could You See Yourself Inside This Mirrored Condo in the Desert?

Condo Full of Mirrors in the Desert

From the outside, Apartment 116 of the Anasazi Village condo community looks like all the others. A stucco-clad building surrounded by inviting pools in arid Phoenix.

But step inside this lower-level unit, and you’ve entered another dimension: Welcome to the house of mirrors.

“Every single wall, every door, every single cabinet front is covered with mirrors,” says listing agent Diana Pickering. She notes that the owners started adding the mirrors shortly after buying the place in the late 1990s. While we’re reflecting on the decor, we can say the “why” behind the mirrors is a bit of a mystery .

Perhaps it was for the illusion of more space. A love of fun houses. Or the “unique and classy” look, as the listing states. The wall-to-wall mirrored home offers up a Versailles-meets-Vegas vibe.

The one-bedroom, one-bath home, at just 850 square feet, is a small footprint. Designing the interior with every square inch a reflective surface was likely aiming for a spatial as well as special effect. It’s most evident in the bathroom, where a mirrored wall tricks the eye into thinking the room is twice its actual size.

Although the place is covered in mirrors, each room has a slightly different take on the material, so it doesn’t seem like too much of a good thing.

Consider the living room, which has mirrors as paneling, including “some of the mirrors like the beveled edge that look like paneling, that have a green undertone so you get a green feel,” Pickering notes. “There’s no carpet; it’s all tile. It’s not a cold feeling. It’s just different.”

The owners kept the home in impeccable condition—no finger prints here! The tiled space also has refreshed features throughout, with new appliances in the kitchen, an updated shower and double sinks in the bathroom, and a master suite with an extra closet that opens to the patio.

The condo community offers plenty of amenities, including pools with waterfalls, a clubhouse, gym, and rec room. It’s also close to golf and shopping.

While living here might seem like living in a night club, the practical aspects of mirrored surfaces could really be a buzzkill.

For example, put the kibosh on hanging any sort of art. You can’t, at least, not on the mirrors. The paintings in the living room are hung from “toggles on the ceiling,” the agent says.

And the mirror theme extends into the kitchen. We can almost make a case for the rest of this reflective residence, but the place where you cook? The newer stainless-steel appliances look quite sleek next to all that glass, but it would be nerve-wracking to be surrounded by such a fragile finish while wielding piping hot dishes and large pots.

While the decor of this 1983 home is certainly unusual, it’s not the only place to have come up with the idea. We featured a show-stopping mansion in Reno that boasts a bedroom with mirrored walls and ceiling, along with mirrored touches throughout. (Bonus: It’s still available for $3.5 million!)

Compared with that mirrored mansion, this cool condo is a silvery steal at a fraction of the price. No reflection required!
