John Oates, the legendary guitarist who makes up half of the hit-making duo Hall & Oates, is selling his large log cabin outside Aspen, CO, for $6 million. He and his wife, Aimee, built the home in 1998.

The 69-year-old musician designed the 4.3-acre Little Woody Creek Ranch for leisure, leaving the majority of the property open for horses or other livestock. Oates and his wife kept a small number of rescue llamas, alpacas, emus, and peacocks at the ranch, according to a 2009 interview.

The 3,961-square-foot home has five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. The Western style cabin with a red metal roof blends perfectly with its surroundings in Woody Creek.

The home features an open-concept living room with a cathedral ceiling, natural wood finishes, large picture windows, and a floor-to-ceiling rock fireplace. Oates furnished the room with deep leather couches and an oversize rug.

The living room flows into the tiled dining room and kitchen, which features a breakfast island with built-in stove, black appliances, and custom wooden cabinetry. Large windows look out on the property and the surrounding mountain peaks.

The master bedroom has a fireplace, and the master bathroom has dual sinks and a separate soaking tub. The home includes a separate unit with a kitchen, bathroom, and washer and dryer. Elsewhere, there are two wells, multiple outbuildings, a two-car garage, home gym, and game room. In the listing photos, the game room is adorned with Oates’ gold and platinum records.

“This would be perfect for an Aspen homeowner who wants a small ranch for horses,” says listing agent Scott Davidson. “The full acreage is irrigated and fully automated, making it easy to care for and not requiring full-time ranch hands.”

Oates is selling the home to focus on his music career in Nashville, TN. He and his wife plan to buy a smaller ranch in the Aspen area, Davidson says.

Oates and Daryl Hall have sold more than 40 million records to date. Their biggest hits came in the late 1970s and mid-1980s, when they saw six singles hit the top of the Billboard 100 chart. In 2014, Oates was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
