You can ship anything these days. Letters, baskets of cookies, a properly addressed potato, and even homes. If you’ve always dreamed of being extra portable, this shipping container home in Montana is for you.

Made of two shipping containers welded together, this one-bedroom home is available for $125,000. It currently sits outside of Livingston, and needs to be moved to a new plot of land after purchase.

“It’s really just a cool, unique property,” says listing agent Tom Gierhan. “Our seller is an architect and a builder and an artist and he does these projects, and he’s just got a real knack for putting together a cool place.”

Architect Ty Kelly built the home in 2013 and has been using it mainly as a vacation rental.

The home’s interior flows smoothly from the living area and kitchen to the bedroom, and large windows offer a postcard view of the natural surroundings.

“It’s 720 square feet, but it doesn’t feel small,” says Gierhan.

Reclaimed lumber from old buildings in Seattle decorates the back wall. Outside, there’s a wraparound wood deck, a firewood storage box, and a shower.

According to the agent and seller, a local crane company could place the dismantled home and deck onto a trailer for relocation (and which Kelly would coordinate for the new buyer).

“You just need a few pilot cars and a wide-load permit for the highway, and off you go,” says Gierhan.

The utility hookups are all in one corner of the home for convenience. The home currently sits on a concrete pier; ensuring the structural stability of its next lot would be up to the new owner.
