A compound in Palm Springs, CA, featuring a pool house, where actor Cary Grant guested on sunny weekends in the 1950s, has landed on the market for $13 million.
The 4-acre, five-building property, which Grant himself dubbed “Villa Paradiso,” is being touted as the last compound of its size for sale in the Old Hollywood–steeped neighborhood of Old Las Palmas.
“It’s a unique, one-of-a-kind home,” says listing agent Marc Lange with Hom Sotheby’s International Realty. “It’s got amazing mountain views and complete privacy. The (stone) wall around the property would cost $1 million to replace.”
The compound was built in 1928 for a Chicago heiress and eventually purchased by Charlie “Kewpie” Rich, a Las Vegas mogul and an owner of the Dunes Hotel. Grant was a friend of Rich’s and spent weekends at Villa Paradiso’s luxurious pool house, which Rich reportedly built for his movie star pal. The pad includes two bedrooms, fireplace, living room, and kitchen. Grant wasn’t the only celeb to indulge in Paradiso’s charms—Howard Hughes also stayed there.

Jennifer Grant, Cary Grant’s daughter with his fourth wife, Dyan Cannon, wrote about the property in her 2011 memoir, “Good Stuff.”
“Our number-one weekend getaway was to Uncle Charlie’s Palm Springs estate,” wrote the younger Grant, an actress best known for her role as Celeste Lundy in the 1990s TV drama “Beverly Hills, 90210. “Uncle Charlie lived in a Spanish adobe on several acres of manicured, palm-tree-lined property. I learned to drive a golf cart and play putt-putt on that lawn. We stayed in the pool house, near the good-for-guppy-hunting pond and gorgeous rose gardens.”
In total, the compound and its four structures measure 15,000 square feet, although the Moorish-style main house is 7,500 square feet and has only two bedrooms. There’s also a guesthouse, caretaker’s house, and four-car garage.
The current owner is Toni Holt Kramer, a founder of a group of socialites supporting Donald Trump, dubbed the “Trumpettes.” She and her husband, David, paid $1.3 million for the property in 1995.
