San Jose Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer is wading into the waters of real estate. Now manning the bench in the San Francisco Bay Area, he’s selling his Madison, NJ, home for $1,269,000.

DeBoer bought the home for $1,025,000 in 2011, when he was coaching the New Jersey Devils. Fired by the Devils in December 2014, he was hired by the San Jose Sharks in May 2015.

While the coach moved across the country to the West Coast, his large family remained behind in New Jersey. It looks like that’s about to change with the sale of the home.

Built in 2009, the home sits on a quarter-acre lot and comes with four bedrooms and 4.5 baths. There’s hardwood flooring throughout, and the cozy family room with gas fireplace opens to the eat-in kitchen.

“The DeBoers finished the third floor, which is beautiful, with built-ins and could be used as an office, additional family room, or fifth bedroom,” says listing agent Kristin Winter of Coldwell Banker. “They also finished the basement, which has a full bath, built-ins, and lots of storage options.”

The front entrance features a covered porch, and there’s a deck off the family room. There’s also a lower patio and fenced-in backyard. The master suite includes generous storage space and separate closets.

The Colonial-style home is located close to town, schools, shopping, and public transit.

In fact, when DeBoer came to town for away games, he took NJ Transit into Manhattan for the Sharks’ games against the Rangers and the Islanders, according to the New York Times.

The Times recounts DeBoer’s decision not to uproot his New Jersey–based family with three children still at home when he got the new job. But he admitted the move might have been more difficult for him.

“For me, it’s been a dramatic change. You come home from work, and you’re used to your wife and three kids and that daily busyness and connection. And you don’t have that anymore.”

The article also notes that the family might have been envious seeing their dad on FaceTime and Skype in sunny California when they were on the snowy East Coast. Perhaps the weather finally won the family over, and now they’re really ready to make the jump from Jersey.
