Energy-efficiency advocates, Realtors square off in Portland home energy reporting debate

Portland is considering requiring homeowners to have their home scored for energy efficiency before they put it up for sale. Realtors and energy-efficiency advocates couldn’t be further apart in their view of the idea. Mayor Charlie Hales proposed the policy in September, saying it would make houses in the city more affordable and livable, all the while helping meet a joint city-Multnomah County goal of reducing carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050 from 1990 levels.
