Just 30 miles outside San Francisco, in the East Bay suburb of Danville, former airline pilot Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger is selling a lovely family home for $1.6 million. The Danville home was where the Sullenbergers were residing when Sully gently and gracefully landed on the national scene.

Built in 1995 with five bedrooms and three bathrooms and 3,409 square feet of living space, the stucco-and-tile tract home is warm and inviting. Pastoral views and a hilltop lot at the end of a cul-de-sac add to the charm. Sullenberger became a household name on Jan. 15, 2009, when he safely landed a commercial jet on the Hudson River in New York after losing both engines to a bird strike. He saved the lives of all 155 passengers on board. He was played by Tom Hanks in the movie version of the heroic water landing in “Sully.”

Following the incident, Sullenberger has gone on to write two New York Times bestselling books and gives speeches around the world on crisis management and safety, according to Forbes. He retired from U.S. Airways in 2010.

This Danville home was where Sully and his wife, Lorrie, were living when the famous landing occurred. According to reports on the hours after the news broke, the front yard of the home was swarming with media trucks and curious journalists looking for a comment from the family.

Once the home of a hero, the Danville house is ready for some new memories. The home is being sold by a family trust. In 2013, the Sullenbergers spent $2.4 million on a home in Truckee, CA, next to the Northstar ski resort, according to the Sacramento Business Journal.
