It’s been quite the “Brady Bunch” week. First, we heard that actress Eve Plumb, who played Jan on the classic 1970s sitcom, pocketed $3.9 million on the sale of her bungalow in Malibu, CA. She bought the home for $55,300 in 1969, when she was just 11 years old. You go, Jan! You were always our favorite, really.
Now, news has emerged about the iconic Ranch home that held the lovable blended brood—the one seen in exterior shots throughout the show’s five-year run which, for better or worse, helped define suburban living for a generation of Americans. The current homeowner, a 95-year-old widow, had the fright of her life when she was woken up late Wednesday night by an attempted burglary. The “Brady Bunch” house was being robbed!
Violet McCallister was alerted to the danger when the intruders broke a door on the second floor of her North Hollywood, CA, residence, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. But the would-be burglars ran away when she turned on the lights—and McCallister wasn’t harmed.
It was terrifying “hearing that noise waking you up and not knowing what’s going to happen to you,” McCallister tells realtor.com®. She says she’s never had any problems before.
The burglars ransacked the downstairs, according to the News, and it’s not yet clear if anything is missing. Police didn’t have any suspects as of Thursday afternoon.
The exterior of the modest two-bedroom, two-bathroom home was the only part of the home that was actually featured in “The Brady Bunch.” The real-life interiors weren’t seem on show, which was shot in a studio.
The “Brady Bunch” home is worth an estimated $1,3416,644, according to realtor.com. It was built in 1959, and after the show gained popularity, a brick-and-iron fence was put up to prevent fans from getting too close.
