Richard Marx Is Right Here Waiting for Someone to Buy His Illinois Mansion

Singer-songwriter Richard Marx has slashed by half the price of this megamansion outside Chicago, recently relisting the waterfront property for $9 million.

Marx, the earnest crooner who provided the adult-contemporary soundtrack for most of the 1990s, has been trying to sell this massive Illinois mansion for nearly four years.

It was initially listed in 2014 for $18 million, but the singer has steadily dropped the mansion’s price ever since to attract a buyer.

Designed by David Adler and built in 1931 as the country estate for Lester and Leola Armour, the home is on the grandest of scales—from the sheer size of the residence, which is just under 30,000 square feet, to the formal, classical interiors fit for royalty. The main residence features seven bedrooms and gorgeous lake views, which span all four of its floors.

The ornate home sits on 5 acres in Lake Bluff, IL, including 400 feet of water frontage on Lake Michigan. It features an array of luxury amenities, including a theater, a rec room with bar, and a detached, decked-out recording studio with its own kitchen, family room, and two bedrooms.

Marx listed the home after the end of his 25-year marriage to actress Cynthia Rhodes. The couple paid $4.7 million for the home in 1997 and added the recording studio to the property.

In 2015, Marx married fellow ’90s icon Daisy Fuentes in Aspen, and the couple is beyond ready to unload this very large, very expensive reminder of his ex-wife. If you’re a buyer interested in the gorgeous property, Marx will be “Right Here Waiting for You,” ready to make a deal.
