Former Yahoo CEO Tim Koogle is unloading his fabulous Mid-Century Modern home in the tony tech enclave of Los Altos Hills, CA. The prodigious price for the pristine renovation is $19.4 million.

Designed by noted Bay Area architect John Funk, who died in 1993, the design incorporates both the openness of the International Style with the Bay Region Style, which incorporated local materials and a sensitivity to the landscape.

“It is extremely unusual to have such a large piece of land, so secluded and private, while still being only about five minutes, 1 mile, from town,” says listing agent Richard C. Williamson of Today Sotheby’s International Realty.

Indeed, the home is ideally located for a tech titan—close to the shops and restaurants of downtown Los Altos—and about 30 minutes to most of the headquarters of major industry giants like Facebook, Apple, and Google.

But convenience doesn’t come cheap. Based on median home prices, Forbes named Los Altos Hills as one of the most expensive ZIP codes in the nation.

Renovated in 2000, the home was “faithfully modernized, expanded, and renovated by renowned architect Scott Johnson for an effective age of 17 years,” according to the listing description.

The classic California Modern design features walls of floor-to-ceiling glass that look out onto “meticulously designed” gardens, as well as deliver views of the valley and mountains.

The main house features a media room, formal living room, large office, formal dining room, and four bedrooms, including the master. The master bathroom’s large windows that look out over gardens can be switched to opaque privacy glass with Smartglass technology.

Other details include skylight towers and high ceilings that add natural light, and concrete floors that are cool in summer but also provide radiant heat flooring in the winter.

The large kitchen opens to outside patios and an outdoor fireplace. There’s also a pool and guesthouse, and surrounding grounds include a one-acre fenced organic garden and orchard.

Of course, to be able to afford all this serenity, being a CEO of a major tech company would help. Koogle was the first CEO of Yahoo and led the one-time Internet behemoth during the glory days from 1995 to 2001.
