With the U.S. ambassador to Denmark away on business, a lucky buyer can play in her opulent villa.

However, playtime isn’t cheap. Located in the lofty environs of the prestigious Moraga Estates, in Bel Air, CA, the ambassador’s mansion is on the market for $37 million.

Carla Sands built the residence with her late husband, real estate mogul Fred Sands. She was a generous contributor to Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign, and after Trump’s victory in 2016, Sands was appointed to the president’s economic advisory council. The council was eventually disbanded, but Sands went on to be appointed and confirmed as the U.S. ambassador to Denmark.

Rather than have her 14,762-square-foot mansion sit vacant, Sands has opted to sell the coveted property that was previously owned by oil tycoon and philanthropist Howard B. Keck. After Keck’s stewardship, the property was later owned by billionaire film producer Ted Field.

Measuring nearly 4 acres, this property is no ordinary estate.

“Moraga Drive is beautifully situated in a prime guard-gated community. The rare oversize lot surrounds the property with amazing grounds and privacy. The villa itself is an architectural triumph,” says Joyce Rey of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury, who is co-listing the property with Jeff Hyland of Hilton & Hyland.

The estate features soaring ceilings, spacious rooms, sophisticated finishes, and classical details throughout, including curved archways and windows and custom millwork.

There are formal living and dining rooms, a spacious office with fireplace and walk-in bar, and a master suite with a fireplace and lovely views.

The sprawling grounds include lush gardens, a swimming pool, a one-bedroom guesthouse, and a motor court for 10 cars. There’s also a south-facing Mediterranean loggia, ideal for al fresco dining and entertaining.

With this much opulence, it’s probably only a matter of time before a deep-pocketed buyer opens diplomatic relations with this engaging estate.
