This week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com® is an extremely appetizing 31,000-square-foot estate built for restaurateur Michael Chow and his wife, Eva.
The massive mansion will take a big bite out of a buyer’s wallet if it sells for the asking price of $78 million.
A seven-year project, the residence was finished in 2005 and is located in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles. The upscale abode has the dubious honor of being located down the street from the legendary Playboy Mansion, which reportedly sold in 2016 for $100 million.
So what fine ingredients went into the mix for this pricey pad? Grab your napkin and let’s see what’s on the menu.

Inspired by the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, the contemporary compound features dazzling imported and antique elements, such as heavy, carved wooden doors from a Spanish monastery; 400-year-old Moorish columns; and 16th- and 17th-century Florentine ceilings. The space, designed to showcase the Chows’ art collection, features high ceilings and gallery walls.
The grand residence incorporates seven bedrooms, two staff bedrooms, and a three-story guest house, along with a covered patio and pool on the 1.1-acre lot. Enter into a soaring atrium (with a 30-foot-high ceiling) that branches off to the other rooms in the house, including a formal dining room, living room, and an art-deco themed library, which once hosted a fundraiser for President Obama.
There’s also an underground space that includes a giant wine cellar and game room, as well as a waterproof home theater with windows that peek right into the pool. The home is topped by a roof deck with awe-inspiring city views.
Alas, there are no images of the owner’s home kitchen which includes a bar, built-in appliances, a microwave, and an adjoining dining area.
Chow is the co-founder and owner of the high-end Mr. Chow restaurant chain, with outposts that include Las Vegas, Malibu, New York City, and London.
Jeff Hyland with Hilton & Hyland holds the listing.
