It’s been more than three years since Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck first listed his spectacular waterfront Martha’s Vineyard estate. The mansion has lingered on the market without a buyer making a fast break to the bank, so Grousbeck has slashed the price.
In August 2015, when it was originally put on the market, the price was set at $22.5 million, but it has been cut by more than $6 million, and currently sits at $16,250,000.
Built in 2001, the contemporary home offers more than 7,000 square feet, seven bedrooms, 8.5 bathrooms and plenty of space for entertaining—whether for a small family gathering or a crowd. The master suite features its own private sundeck and fireplace.
The nearly 30-acre estate sits on the Edgartown Great Pond, with views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Clean and modern—yet traditional—the predominantly white interiors are offset by views of the of rolling, lush emerald-green lawns and crystal blue water. Vaulted, beamed ceilings add drama and height, and bring in an informal, beach house feel, keeping the grand home from feeling too stuffy.
Of course, with the amount of acreage around the main residence, a new owner could build additional residences for family vacations on the water.
In 2015, the home’s listing agent at the time said, “It certainly has the capacity to expand to more of a compound. One could build two additional full-size properties if one wanted to create a generational meeting place.”
In addition to his hopes of landing a buyer in Martha’s Vineyard for real, Grousbeck is busy getting the Celts ready for the upcoming season.
He made Page Six last month when he showed up for dinner at Scarpetta in Manhattan with a group that included two NBA heavy hitters, Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and Michael Jordan.
As preseason play heats up across the NBA, Grousbeck is feeling optimistic about his team’s chances, telling the Providence Journal that this year’s vibe reminds him of the 2007-2008 Celtics’ championship season.
“We built this one over a number of years and have seen it come together through free agency, drafting, a new coach,” Grousbeck said. “This feels like we really prepared for this one and built up for, hopefully, a run really being good for a few years in a row.”
In the meantime, Grousbeck has a mansion to sell that’s sure to be a slam dunk for a buyer ready to fall in love with Martha’s Vineyard from a spectacular vantage point.
