Ava DuVernay, one of the hottest directors in Hollywood at the moment, is currently helming the sale of her sleek home in artsy Beachwood Canyon. It’s listed for the relatively reasonable price of $1,065,000.
Located in Los Angeles, the 1,280-square-foot home was built in 1961 by architect Richard Banta. Public records indicate the director purchased it in 2012 for $698,000.
It’s fitting she directed a savvy renovation, while leaving intact Banta’s open floor plan and the original walls of glass. The windows offer views of the famous “Hollywood” sign and the picturesque canyon.

The open floor plan makes the two-bedroom, two-bath home appear larger than it is. The spacious feeling is further enhanced by the covered deck, which runs the length of the back of the house and is accessible from a number of rooms.

DuVernay, 45, graduated from UCLA and started working in journalism. She moved into public relations, and then tried her hand at documentary and feature filmmaking. She became the first African-American woman to win the dramatic competition at the Sundance Film Festival and to be nominated as a director for a Golden Globe and an Oscar for her work on “Selma.” Her documentary “13th” was also nominated for an Oscar.
She’s currently working on a superhero film called “The New Gods” and a five-episode limited series for Netflix titled “Central Park Five.”
