Decisions, decisions—you might want to consult your playbook. Do you buy from former Notre Dame Fighting Irish head coach Charlie Weis or do you take him on as your landlord?
The ex-NFL offensive coordinator and college football head coach hopes someone calls an audible soon as he explores options for a Granger, IN, mansion that’s been on the market for years.
Fresh to the rental market, these 5 acres can be yours for just $7,500 a month. Or you could choose to pony up the $1.6 million Weis is still asking for the 8,400-square-foot property and buy it outright.
Either option puts your foot in the door of this five-bedroom, seven-bathroom, custom-built home. While the exterior won’t wow you, the home exemplifies livability and not appearances, the listing agent says. That said, the mansion doesn’t lack for features.

An in-ground pool, horse-riding arena, and stable round out the most eye-popping features—that and the additional 3.63 acres of undeveloped land to let the buyer’s imagination run wild.
The home comes with soaring ceilings and dramatic windows. Take a peek out one of those windows, and you’ll notice the regulation-size baseball field that comes with the property.
Used to swinging for the fences, Weis built his football reputation as an offensive guru when he was the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots at the beginning of their dynasty. After five seasons of calling plays for Tom Brady en route to winning a trio of Super Bowls, Weis left to become head coach of Notre Dame.
However, his time with the Patriots was the apex of his gridiron career. He lasted just four seasons with the Fighting Irish, where he went 1-2 in bowl games and finished no higher than ninth in the polls.
He returned to the NFL in 2010 with the Kansas City Chiefs before accepting a coordinator position at the University of Florida in 2011 and then the head coaching job with the Kansas Jayhawks. Weis’ Kansas teams struggled, and he picked just six wins with the Jayhawks before being fired in the middle of his third season.
