Can you see a ray of sunshine lighting up the Windy City? Actor Vince Vaughn has finally sold the top two floors of the Chicago penthouse he’s been trying to unload for five years.
The 7,880-square-foot apartment, comprising the 36th and 37th floors of the Palmolive Building on North Michigan Avenue, closed for $8 million, the Chicago Tribune says. The three-bedroom unit features three terraces, 14-foot ceilings, and a service kitchen for the patio area. It was on the market for $8.2 million.
Vaughn—who paid $12 million for the triplex in 2006, has been trying to offload the 12,000-square-foot unit since 2011, when he originally offered it at a whopping $24.7 million. After the property languished on the market, the actor split the giant three-floor unit into two, more manageable properties and, presumably, mortgages.

The smaller of the two units, a 4,292-square-foot flat on the 35th floor that was on the market for $4.2 million, is under contract.
“The phone’s ringing off the hook,” listing agent Katherine Malkin of Baird & Warner Real Estate told realtor.com® in May after implementing the new sales strategy. “There appears to be a much wider audience for apartments under 13,000 square feet.”
Vaughn, who’s made a career as an unlucky-at-love mensch, starred with Jennifer Aniston in “The Break-Up,” a 2006 hit rom-com about a couple more in love with their Chicago condo than with each other.
