Most Expensive New Listing: Striking New $50M Townhome on Upper East Side

realtor.com

A distinctive new $50 million building on Manhattan’s Upper East Side is this week’s most expensive new listing on realtor.com®.

The curved glass building was created by architect Rafael Viñoly, who also designed nearby 432 Park, the tallest residential tower in the world when it was built.

“This is one of the very few, exclusive buildings he’s done for individuals. It’s a very unique building,” says listing agent Maria Belen Avellaneda.

The seven-story structure is on a smaller scale than his work on 432 Park, but it delivers a big impact nonetheless. The standout townhome was commissioned by Argentinian businessman Eduardo Eurnekian.

Eurnekian envisioned a pied-à-terre where the bottom floors would serve as office and meeting spaces, and the remaining four floors and roof deck would be living quarters.

Before the building was even finished, Eurnekian was fielding offers.

“He wasn’t going to use it a lot,” the agent says. So instead of moving in, Eurnekian put the building on the market.

Without Eurnekian seeing the townhome to completion, the lower floors and some other finishes could be customized for a buyer—with the architect’s input—Avellaneda noted.

The 9,382 square feet of space includes six en suite bedrooms, eight marble baths, and an elevator. The interior has a “fresh and modern style,” with sunlight flooding the space through the massive glass walls as well as skylights and high ceilings throughout the town home.

The kitchen includes a double fridge, large island, wine cellar, and ample cabinets. The middle floor features a floor-to-ceiling window, which opens to a terrace.

“When you see the building from the outside, it looks much smaller. When you go inside, it’s amazing,” the agent says.

The structural, curved glass was designed in Germany and Spain. The glass is bulletproof, and horizontal stripes provide some privacy while allowing in light.
