Golfer Geoff Ogilvy Is Headed Down Under, Selling ‘Dreamy’ Scottsdale Home

PGA golfer Geoff Ogilvy is selling his sprawling home in Scottsdale, AZ, for $4.75 million. The 2006 U.S. Open winner has decided to ditch the desert for life in Australia full time.

It wasn’t an easy decision to leave Scottsdale and his modern mansion, he said in a recent interview. His preference would be to split his time between his hometown of Melbourne and the arid climes of Arizona.

“Scottsdale is dreamy,” Ogilvy said. “We live a great existence. I know what I’m getting there. If we didn’t move back, we’d be a six-and-six family. The kids get out of school, and they’re bounced back and forth. It’s not good for continuity.”

Ogilvy is married to Juli, who was born in Texas. They have three kids: Phoebe, 12; Harvey, 8; and Jasper, 10.

The home the Ogilvy family is leaving behind was built in 2013. Though it measures 7,700 square feet and has six bedrooms and six bathrooms, the custom home appears warm and cozy—thanks to the rich finishes of reclaimed brick, marble, wood flooring, and granite.

In the shadow of the area’s famous Camelback Mountain, the backyard features a lap pool, and lawns any golfer could appreciate.

Of course, the area is also home to some of the most celebrated golf courses in the country, including TPC, Troon North, and Talking Stick.

Ogilvy grew up on the greens of Victoria Golf Club, and has always kept a home there. Ogilvy has eight PGA Tour victories, and he’s planning to compete from Australia. He admits the travel will be “brutal”—and there’s no doubt on one of those trans-Atlantic flights, Oglivy will be dreaming of this lush home that’s definitely an ace.

Obama Adviser David Axelrod Snags Chicago Condo for $1.64M

Democratic mastermind David Axelrod—the chief strategist of Barack Obama‘s presidential campaigns—has strategized his way into a new apartment in Chicago.

The condo in a luxe high-rise was initially listed in March for $1.73 million, according to property records. The price was reduced to $1.65 million in May. Axelrod and his wife, Susan, picked it up for $1,645,000 in early October.

The 3,000-square-foot corner unit has three bedrooms and three baths. It features floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing views of Grant Park, the city skyline, and Lake Michigan.

Most Expensive Listing in the U.S. Is Bel Air Megamansion for $245M

The Chartwell estate, a French neoclassical megamansion nestled comfortably on 10.3 manicured acres in Bel Air, has hit the market with quite a roar. With an asking price of $245 million, the Los Angeles listing is the most expensive in the U.S. Take a bow, Chartwell!

The extreme price made plenty of headlines, and is touted as “the ultimate trophy” by Hilton and Hyland, one of several brokerage houses representing the real estate behemoth.

The luxe listing was quietly shopped around for the crazy-high price of $350 million last year. However, a sale for anywhere near its current price would be one for the record books. The current record holder is a $110 million home sale in Malibu earlier this year.

The 25,000-square-foot mansion was built in the1930s by architect Sumner Spaulding, commissioned by a property developer as a gift for his wife, according to Variety. Sadly, she apparently disliked the opulence of the place and never moved in. 

Amazingly, the home sat empty until the 1940s, when it was bought by hotelier Arnold Kirkeby, whose family held it until the 1980s. 

In 1986, billionaire media executive Andrew Jerrold Perenchio acquired the property and set about transforming it. He expanded the estate by buying up three contiguous land parcels.

He then tapped French designer Henri Samuel for a major renovation, heavily emphasizing 18th-century French neoclassical style. The mansion now includes 11 bedrooms, 18 bathrooms, and a layout focused on grand entertaining. Amenities of the chateau include a limestone facade, a ballroom, formal salon, paneled dining room, “world-class wine cellar,” and covered parking for 40 cars, according to the listing. 

The grounds boast a long private driveway, a five-bedroom guesthouse designed by Wallace Neff, gardens, a tennis court, pool with pool house, and “jetliner” views of downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean.

Fans of the 1960s sitcom “The Beverly Hillbillies” may recognize the main house featured in the TV show’s opening credits. Sadly, the compound now would probably be out of reach even for the Clampetts.

‘The Dukes of Hazzard’ 1969 Dodge Charger ‘General Lee’

Another Hollywood vehicle that will charge up your garage is this 1969 Dodge Charger known as “General Lee,” from the 2005 movie based on the TV series “The Dukes of Hazzard.” It’s the “Pre-Cooter’s General Lee,” used in the scenes before the car was wrecked and taken to Cooter’s shop to be restored.
