A stylish Malibu, CA, estate belonging to fashion designer James Perse is this week’s most expensive new listing. The oceanfront property is asking $39,995,000—more than double what he paid for the place.
It’s no surprise that the retailer—whose upscale brand includes a cult-favorite T-shirt line, decor, and furniture—also has a taste for luxury real estate. In fact, Perse’s design philosophy stems from his “passion for minimalist architecture influenced by warm west-coast indoor outdoor living and the casual clothing that’s inspired by it,” according to the designer’s website.
Perse purchased the Point Dume property for $16 million in 2010, according to Yolanda’s Little Black Book. Rebranded as part of the James Perse Residential Projects, the property has “endless ocean views” and is “one of the most coveted properties on Point Dume.”

The 4,209-square-foot home has five beds, four bathrooms, and two half-baths. The property boasts an open living space, private stairs to the beach, ocean views, and an expansive lawn. A separate guesthouse completes the estate.
The back of the home opens to the grounds. The living room, kitchen, and dining area all place a focus on the views, with walls of glass and high ceilings.
Outside, the private and gated property comes with a large grassy lawn and lounge space that leads down to Point Dume Beach.
Built in 2004 for “X-Files” creator Chris Carter, the single-story home has since been renovated to fit the fashion mogul’s minimalist’s tastes, according to the Real Deal. The sleek furnishings and decor are his designs. The interior also showcases a collection of antiques curated by Perse.
The furnishings are available for separate purchase, according to listing agent Lily Harfouche.
Perse, who had most recently leased out the minimalist gem, owns another Malibu property that he reportedly picked up in 2016. The Hamptons-style estate with a pool and tennis courts set the clothier back $12.5 million. Perse and wife Brandi Briskman Perse also reportedly own an equestrian property in Thousand Oaks, CA, which they snapped up in 2013 for $10.85 million from fellow real estate maven Ellen DeGeneres.
