Actor Colin Hanks just proved he’s a man of action. He snapped up a brand-new modern farmhouse in a pretty little neighborhood in Studio City, CA, for $2.85 million before the home even went on the market.
About a year ago, a developer picked up a three-bedroom, two-bath house on the 7,962-square-foot lot for $850,000. Built in 1946, the ranch house was run-down and in desperate need of, well, everything.
Today it’s a gleaming 4,300-square-foot farmhouse with five bedrooms and 5.5 baths. The house was set to be listed for $2.8 million, before Hanks stepped up.

The 40-year-old actor is familiar with the neighborhood—it’s less than a mile from a home his family lived in during the early days of his dad’s career.

Hanks, wife Samantha Bryant, and their two children will have plenty of room to stretch out in their new home. The master suite includes a fireplace, marble bathroom with a free-standing tub and double shower, as well as two closets.
Joanna Gaines of “Fixer Upper” and Magnolia Market fame would undoubtedly approve of the home’s shiplap paneling, wide-plank wood flooring, and exposed wood beams on the ceilings. She’d also endorse the eat-in kitchen with marble countertops and island with a waterfall edge.
And pals in the entertainment biz will be impressed by the state-of-the-art home theater with black leather–upholstered walls.
A high fence surrounds the backyard, which features a pool and spa, a large green lawn, and a barbecue station.
Hanks, whose father is Oscar winner Tom Hanks, has appeared in 25 TV shows and 27 films. He currently stars in the sitcom “Life in Pieces.”
