Daytona 500 winner Kurt Busch has put his North Carolina lakeside mansion, which he fondly calls “Chateau du Busch,” up for sale for $3.95 million. He had bought the 9,500-square-foot home in Mooresville in 2013 for $3.29 million.
Built in 2007, the four-bedroom, six-bath home sits on a half-acre lot on the shores of Lake Norman, about an hour north of the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The European-inspired mansion has a stone exterior with a cedar shake roof. Double doors open to a foyer with immediate views of the negative-edge pool, which spills into a waterfall below. There are lake views from virtually every room.
In 2015 Busch shot an “MTV Cribs”–style video for Monster Energy taking viewers through the home’s many features.
“You can’t beat this view,” Busch says in the video. “You know, when you’ve got the pool going into the lake like that, I just can’t decide which one I want to go swim in.”

A few steps off the foyer is the kitchen, which Busch says is “the main reason I bought the house.”
It’s easy to see why: There’s a curved, granite-topped breakfast bar that seats five. Guests can sit on one side while you cook on the other side. There’s also a center island, gas range, and refrigerator with double doors.

Upstairs, there’s a dedicated trophy room, which holds Busch’s former racing helmets, a number of NASCAR trophies, and the first trophy he ever won, at a dirt track race in Nevada in 1994. The master bedroom has a sitting area, fireplace, window seating, and remote-controlled blinds.

There’s an entertainment area with a 90-inch, flat-screen TV, and four smaller TVs around it, allowing you to conceivably watch five games at once. The area also has a bar, poker table, and billiard room. You’ll have to supply your own pool table though—Busch is hanging onto his for sentimental reasons.
“This was the first piece of furniture that I bought with my first check from racing cars,” Busch says. “Didn’t buy a couch, didn’t buy a house. I had my apartment, and I had my pool table. She’s going to stay with me until I die.”

Outside, the pool is on the second story, with stairs leading to a grotto below. Lakeside, there’s an elevated deck at the end of the dock, with a boat lift.

“You’ve got to find time to recharge,” Busch says, sitting in an Adirondack chair on his private beach. “This house isn’t too much trouble to recharge in. This is what it’s all about right here. That’s the lake life.”
Busch has had mixed success with real estate. In 2009, he bought a $2.8 million condo in Virginia Beach, VA; he listed it four years later at a loss. He’s steadily dropped the list price, which now sits at $1.4 million. Similarly, he failed to sell an undeveloped stretch of beachfront property in the same city for $1.5 million.
