Since Harpo Productions moved out of Chicago and Oprah Winfrey‘s daily talk show went off the air, the media mogul has spent less and less time in the Windy City.
Selling her condo on North Michigan Avenue is among the latest shuffles, according to a recent story in Chicago Magazine.
Technically in Streeterville, a newer section of downtown—right along the Lake Michigan shoreline popular with condo developers—this particular property is inside Water Tower Place, a glam shopping center with residences.
Oprah sold her 57th-floor condo—an amalgam of adjacent and adjoining units she acquired since 1985—to an LLC last year for $4,625,000, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The LLC then turned around and listed a 3,380-square-foot chunk of Winfrey’s holdings for $3.7 million. The new owners of that unit are United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz and his wife, Cathy, who paid $3.55 million for the condo in February. It’s way above the neighborhood’s $595,000 median price; however, this much square footage in downtown Chicago is hard to come by.
Munoz is living in a totally new design scheme, too, according to the magazine. Oprah’s French country style was abandoned for modern art deco, the work of a local interior design firm.
From the open-plan kitchen, Lake Michigan views can be had while cooking or sipping morning coffee, and an induction cooktop is built into the kitchen island, contributing to the home’s clean lines. The bathroom features a freestanding soaking tub in front of a slab of black-and-white marble.
Now focused on publishing O, The Oprah Magazine and starring in and producing hit films, including “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” and “The Butler,” Winfrey also has a 42-acre spread in Montecito, CA; a ski retreat in Telluride, CO; and sun-kissed estates in Fisher Island, FL, and Hana, HI.
