After being cut by the Arizona Cardinals in March, All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu—aka “Honey Badger”—is selling his suburban mansion near Phoenix for $1.4 million.
TMZ Sports first reported on the listing, located in the Phoenix suburb of Chandler, AZ, and just minutes from the Cardinals’ training facility. Built in 2003, the sprawling luxury estate features six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and nearly 6,000 square feet.
Mathieu purchased Santa Barbara-style home in April 2017 for $1.23 million. At the time, he was in the middle of a deal with the Cards that would pay him $62.5 million over five years. This season, the team asked the star defensive back to take a pay cut, to free up salary cap room. Honey Badger wasn’t having any of it.
“There’s many ways you could restructure a contract instead of just taking money out of my pocket,” Mathieu said of the Cardinals’ offer, according to NFL.com. “Taking money out of my pocket, I don’t like how that feels.”

The interiors of the desert dwelling are masculine and include touches like built-in displays for trophies and awards, which must have appealed to the accomplished athlete, who has plenty of hardware to show off.
Ideal for entertaining, the home has plenty of space for a crowd. It features a roomy kitchen with dual dishwashers and wine fridge, a home theater, and a resort-style backyard complete with pool, spa, outdoor kitchen, and misting system—which is key to surviving the scorching desert heat.
Now the 26-year-old is headed to Houston to suit up for the Texans. All that’s left for Honey Badger to do to cut ties with the Cardinals is to find a buyer for this incredible property.
