Award-winning actress Kirsten Dunst is having a great year. In early May, she gave birth to her first child. Days later, she closed on the sale of her chic crash pad in Manhattan for $4.43 million.
She bought the apartment for $3.09 million in 2007, one month after “Spider-Man 3” opened in theaters. Dunst was 25 at the time, and in the midst of a five-month relationship with British rock star Johnny Borrell.
The two-bedroom, 1.5-bath apartment at the edge of Soho makes perfect sense for a young, wealthy Manhattanite—it’s upscale, immaculate, and just the right size for one person. Two would be cramped, and three would be virtually impossible.
She put the unit on the market in early 2017 for $5 million, shortly after getting engaged to fellow actor Jesse Plemons.
The building, which has two addresses (477 Washington St. and 533 Canal St.) has reportedly been home to former R.E.M. lead singer Michael Stipe, actor Casey Affleck, and director Gus Van Sant. It’s located just off the Manhattan entrance to the Holland Tunnel, two blocks from the Hudson River.
Dunst’s apartment on the top floor is arguably one of the best in the building. A private elevator opens directly into the apartment’s open-concept living room. The big draw here is the view—large, arched windows offer spectacular views of the river.

The living room features original brick walls. There are 11-foot-tall ceilings and wide-plank wood floors. Dunst apparently has a bohemian taste in interior design—vintage club chairs and a checkered wingback are paired with a comfy, white couch. A large, gold-framed mirror sits on the floor, and the chandelier is shaped like a ship.
The living room opens to the kitchen, which has exposed brick, open shelving, Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, white marble countertops, and vintage light fixtures.

A sliding door off the living room opens to a library, which has built-in bookcase. The listing counts this room as the smaller of the two bedrooms.
The spacious master bedroom can fit a king-size bed, which is a rarity in the city. It comes with a walk-in closet that apparently wasn’t big enough for Dunst, who had a freestanding clothes rack, armoire, and handbag stand.

The master bath has a claw-foot soaking tub, separate glass shower, mosaic tiled floor, and heated towel rack.

In 2013 Dunst put the unit on the rental market for $12,500 a month.
Dunst was a child actor who broke into Hollywood movies with the 1994 horror drama “Interview With the Vampire.” More recently, she won a Screen Actors Guild award for her portrayal of NASA supervisor Vivian Mitchell in the film “Hidden Figures.”
