Prestigious Princeton Estate Achieves High Honors as Week’s Most Popular Home

realtor.com

A one-of-a-kind estate with an architectural pedigree in Princeton, NJ,  took the crown of most popular home on realtor.com® this week.

On the market for $3.2 million, the 1880s home was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt, who’s best known for the lavish Breakers estate in Newport, RI, and the pedestal that holds up the Statue of Liberty.

The homeowners have painstakingly preserved the historic building over the past two decades.

“They’ve been very good to it,” says listing agent Jud Henderson.

Other notable properties looking good this week include a stylish farmhouse in Hidden Hills, CA, that hit the market for $3.9 million and the log cabin “Catopia” in Arizona, which returns with a price cut, still searching for the purr-fect buyer.

But there’s truly no need to be catty. Here are the 10 properties that proved to be catnip for eager home watchers this week.

5. 450 W Grixdale, Detroit, MI

3. 669 County Road, Concho, AZ

Price: $150,000
Why it’s here: If cats could buy a home, this would be the purr-fect place. As we reported last year, “Catopia” features cat-themed decor, from floor to fluffy ceiling, and includes catwalks and a cat castle. Alas, finding a human buyer seems to be a challenge, since this kitty-littered abode might have limited appeal for folks who don’t appreciate felines. Since the cabin went on the market last summer, the price has come down in price by $90,000. Now’s the time to pounce!

2. 3322 37th St W, Billings, MT

Price: $1,790,000
Why it’s here: Built in 2017, this six-bedroom sanctuary makes beautiful use of its surroundings. The layout includes a living space with collapsible glass sliding doors which open to heated patios. Set on over 2 acres, the gorgeous abode offers mountain and city views.

1. 68 Library Pl, Princeton, NJ

Price: $3,200,000
Why it’s here: Fans of the architect Richard Morris Hunt have clicked with (and on!) this 1882 estate, which he designed. Adjacent to the Princeton Theological Seminary, this well-appointed property was built as a gift for a seminary dignitary.

“It’s got a great pedigree from an architectural standpoint,” says listing agent Jud Henderson.

Along with six bedrooms, the home contains a library, dining room, and living room. They feature high ceilings, intricate ceiling medallions, and detailed millwork, including pocket doors, original hardwood, and nine fireplaces.

But it’s not stuck in the past. The homeowners, who have lived there for 20 years, added central AC to all three floors and updated the kitchen. The modernized cooking area now includes an eat-in gazebo in the same Gothic Revival style of the house.

A two-sided fireplace connects the family room with a wet bar.

“The owners have done an amazing kitchen renovation,” Henderson adds. “It was an extension of the house and really well done in keeping with the architecture.”
