Stephen Dorff Looks for the Clue to Selling His Malibu Beach House

“True Detective” star Stephen Dorff has listed his architecturally significant Malibu beach house again. It’s now available at the reduced price of $7,980,000.

The midcentury modern was last seen on the market in 2017 for $8.45 million. The actor bought the iconic home, built by modern masters Buff & Hensman in 1968, in 2002.

As classic and well-preserved as the home may be, the most prominent feature might be the 40 feet of La Costa Beach frontage that come with the home.

La Costa Beach “is one of the few remaining private, dry beaches in Malibu,” according to F. Ron Smith of the Smith & Partners team at Compass. He’s co-listing the house with David Berg and Robert Morton of the Smith & Berg Partners team at Compass, and Stephen Udoff, also with Compass.

This coveted beach always has walkable, exposed sand as opposed to other local beaches where the water will crash right up to homes, cliffs, or hillsides.

Up the original spiral staircase, you’ll find the home’s three bedrooms and two baths (there’s a third bath on the main level). The master has a private balcony overlooking the beach, and the unobstructed ocean views from the balcony reveal nothing but sand and sea for miles. Other bedrooms offer canyon views.

Shag carpeting in some of the rooms reinforces the home’s late ’60s pedigree, and the cedar shingles, dark stained wood, and tongue-and-groove ceilings are just as the builders intended them.

The kitchen features modern appliances and finishes that blend in perfectly with the rest of the house.

As appealing as the home is, the 45-year-old actor doesn’t live there full time. It’s been on and off the rental market for as much as $50,000 a month, while Dorff spent time on the East Coast, where, when last we heard, he had a $3 million New York penthouse, which has also been on and off the market.

Dorff is fresh off his stint starring on Season 3 of “True Detective” and has made a number of memorable film and TV appearances over the course of his quirky Hollywood career.
