High-End ‘Barndominium’ in Texas Tops This Week’s Most Popular Homes

realtor.com

Back to the “barndominium”! A stunning, high-end example of the hottest trend in housing is the most popular home of the week on realtor.com®.

This Texas barndominium includes a sleek kitchen, open-concept living, and amenities like a pool and poolhouse, an adorable chicken barn, and a large workshop. Plus, we love the classic red of the buildings in this small compound.

The runner-up this week is a charming new home in Nashville, TN, on the market for $345,000. It’s a great space, and with this much interest, we’re sure it won’t stay long on the market.

We were also intrigued by Maryland’s most expensive home, an ultra-deluxe Jersey beach house, and a gracious abode in Savannah, GA, that exudes Southern hospitality.

Feel right at home with all the popular offerings on the list this week.

10. 6601 Ocean Blvd, Long Beach Township, NJ

Price: $5,995,000
Why it’s here: Pump your fist! With “Jersey Shore” back on the air, perhaps there’s a bit of nostalgia propelling this listing to popularity. We could see Snooki and The Situation partaking of the seven ensuite bedrooms, gourmet kitchen, and most importantly, a fitness room with a sauna. The revelry can easily continue outdoors, with large decks, a pool, lounge space, and an outdoor kitchen.

9. 3 Loring Ave, Danvers, MA

Price: $400,000
Why it’s here: Built in 1900, this “rare riverfront offering” only comes around once every couple of generations, according to the listing details. It’s been in the same family for 60 years and has been “lovingly maintained,” with an updated kitchen and wraparound deck. The waterfront property is a nature lover’s paradise, while offering proximity to the commuter rail to Boston and the Cummings Center in Beverly, nearby.

8. 9 Chevy Chase Cir, Chevy Chase, MD

Price: $25,900,000
Why it’s here The most expensive home in Maryland, this was the first estate ever built in Chevy Chase. As we reported, the expansive 12,885-square-foot mansion has hosted presidents, foreign dignitaries, and socialites … and perhaps you, if you choose to cough up the cash.

7. 9802 N Hillside St, Valley Center, KS

Price: $376,000
Why it’s here: It’s the “Little House on the Prairie,” but not so little, and modernized to boot. The updated four-bedroom farmhouse offers 3,228 square feet where you can spread out inside, plus 20 acres of surrounding land. The updated space includes a new kitchen, fresh paint, baths with subway tile, and a master bedroom with sliding glass doors outside. Other details include a wraparound porch, and a separate shop that can hold four vehicles.

6. 924 Bel Air Rd, Los Angeles, CA

Price: $188,000,000
Why it’s here: Do billionaires dream of Bel Air? Developer Bruce Makowsky—with his megamansion known as “Billionaire”—must believe they do. The ultraluxe custom pad built for highest-end living first splashed onto the market last year for $250 million. But without a deal coming through at that price, the spec property landed back on the market with a $62 million price cut.

5. 9668 Highway 421 S, Trade, TN

Price: $225,000
Why it’s here: Built in the 1880s, the historic home is one of the oldest still standing in Johnson County, and its age is evident. It’s a serious remodeling project in need of a top-to-bottom restoration. Original details that have been preserved include brick walls and detailed woodwork. The property sits on 10 rolling acres and is being sold “as is.”

4. 9927 Giffin Ct, Windermere, FL

Price: $28,000,000
Why it’s here: Last week’s first-place finisher, NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal’s 31,000-square-foot spread, soared again this week. The huge baller’s similarly oversized lakefront home contains such opulent details as a double staircase, built-in-double sofas, and a two-story marble fireplace, as well as a 6,000-square-foot indoor basketball court, and outdoor space with a pool and summer kitchen.

3. 815 Whitaker St, Savannah, GA

Price: $1,257,000
Why it’s here: Talk about Southern hospitality! This town home, with views of Forsyth Park, comes with not one, but two vacation rental licenses. One for the main house, the other for the garden-level apartment. We sense income opportunity lurking in Savannah. Built in 2007 and located in the city’s Victorian Historic District, the property offers four levels, including a roof terrace, elevator, and garage. The 2,703-square-foot space features a modern kitchen, living and dining area, an office, four bedrooms, plus a fenced-in yard with park views.

2. 1423A Otay St, Nashville, TN

Price:: $345,000
Why it’s here: The price speaks for itself—but the pictures of this move-in ready home also scream “keeper.” It’s charming and brand new, and the three-bedroom layout includes a modern open kitchen with quartz counters and subway tiles that opens to a sunny living and dining space. Other fab features include built-in shelving and storage in the closets, tiled baths, and a second-story deck, along with a small, fenced yard.

1. 2686 McClendon Rd, Weatherford, TX

Price: $399,000
Why it’s here: Barndominiums have surged in popularity, and this example at the top of our list shows why. The structure combines a shop and barn with living quarters, but the high-end four-bedroom home could stand on its own. The space includes a modern kitchen with granite island and new cabinets, a large open living and dining space, and a master suite with private balcony. Outside, there’s a “party pavilion,” a covered poolhouse and pool. The guesthouse includes a full kitchen and living area, as well as a bed and bath. There are also even a chicken barn and a 1,200-square-foot shop. In sum, it’s a real barnstorm of a compound.
